[1]  The Repetition Max.

You’ll use RMs that correlate with an intensity level of approximately 70 to 85% of your max, which the Soviets found to be the optimum range for building strength.

[2]  Variable Loading.

The Soviets also found that when you vary the amount of work you do (volume) with the intensity (% of max effort) in a seemingly random manner, this yielded a 61% greater increase in strength than the traditional Western approach of Progressive Overload / Linear Periodization.

The Western approach directly correlates more work with less weight and vice versa.

[3]  Autoregulation.

Autoregulation is doing as much work as you feel like doing, based on the day’s training parameters, which change throughout the week.

This allows you to still get a productive workout whether you got in fight with your Jerk Boss, you were up most of the night with a sick kiddo, or you’re firing on all cylinders.

This “auto regulation” contributes to the “variability” of your workouts, which is what produces such fast and head-turning results.
